An Investigation of Thermal Comfort in Classrooms in the Tropical Savanna Climate

Studying the thermal environment in classrooms is essential due to its impact on students' health, teaching, learning, and productivity. In Nigerian context, there a general lack of comfort studies, none specifically relate secondary school settings. This study aims investigate perceptions indoor determine optimum temperature naturally ventilated tropical savanna climate. Field investigations were conducted free-running Abuja evaluate occupants' perceptions. The involves 901 pupils from 21 classrooms. Data obtained through physical measurements variables questionnaire survey environment. objective assessment indicated that 86% inconsistent with ASHRAE standard–55. Although 60% satisfied their environment, 78% preferred cooler than neutral temperature. result revealed 28.9 oC. results extend literature savannah climate west African sub-region, which has received little attention earlier research. findings provide foundation data for developing standard zone.
